The earplugs are made of pre-molded, non-irritating silicone rubber and do not contain any latex.
Yes. The earplugs can be cleaned with mild soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly before re-inserting into ear canal.
No. These earplugs were specifically designed to provide superior water protection. That is not to say that they cannot be used for noise protection, but the product does not currently carry a Noise Reduction Rating, nor does it make any claims that it is designed to be used for hearing protection. In fact, surfers opt for this earplug just because it protects from the water without reducing the noise. It allows them to continue to listen to what is happening around, even with protected ears.
First try re-inserting after carefully re-reading the directions. If you still have trouble getting the earplug to seal, re-insert and wiggle the stem while gently pushing the earplug to form a waterproof seal. If you are still having trouble inserting the earplug into the ear canal, try inserting it with the tip pointed slightly forward toward your face. A sign that the earplug is sealing properly is that your own voice will sound more internal and exaggerated. Another way to check that you have a proper seal is to grip the stem of the plug and wiggle it (ever so slightly) in and out. A properly sealed plug will create a slight suction effect.
We recommend you consult an E.N.T. (ear, nose, and throat doctor) so that they can help you determine if the earplugs are safe for your particular application. While these earplugs were designed for older kids and adults, doctors and parents have use the flanged earplugs on kids as young as 7 years of age. We recommend using the Mack's® Kids Size Silicone earplugs for children 6 and under. In most cases, it will simply depend on the size of the individual's ear canals. Usage should always be supervised by an adult and the plug should only be used if it can be fit comfortably and effectively to the ear canal.
Helps get the water out of your ears
Mack's Dry-n-Clear® ear drops help relieve the discomfort of water-clogged ears from swimming, bathing, showering, scuba diving, surfing, etc. by drying excess water.
Formulated with a unique moisturizing agent that helps dry excess water while conditioning the delicate lining of the ear canal.
The application is simple: 4-5 drops in the affected ear, with effective action.
Due to its composition, predominantly alcohol solution and after contact with water, the product will cause evaporation thereof.
This process is softened by the action of glycerin that not only reduces the possible overheating by the action of alcohol, but also contributes to greater comfort during application.

If you would like to use both products, we recommend applying the ear drying aid after using the earplugs, rather than using them simultaneously.
Note: If you are using moldable silicone earplugs, be sure that the ear canal is clean and dry before re-inserting the earplugs. This will help assure that you get an airtight/watertight seal over the ear canal.
Our ear drying aid contains a special moisturizing agent that is designed to dry out the excess water while helping condition the thin delicate skin lining the ear canal. It is this delicate skin that must be kept healthy to help prevent the painful outer ear infection known as "swimmer's ear".
The following measures should be taken:
Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water. Get medical attention if irritation persists.
Skin Irritation: Immediately and thoroughly wash off with soap and water.
Ingestion: If swallowed, seek medical attention.
Inhalation: N/A.
The active ingredients are Isopropyl Alcohol - 95%, Anhydrous Glycerin - 5%. Both ingredients assist in drying moisture from the ear canal, while the glycerin also helps condition the delicate lining of the ear canal.
Ear drops Dry-n-Clear® should be used only in the ear canal. Should apply 4-5 drops in the affected ear.
Ask for advice prior to using the product, with your doctor or pharmacist if: ear discharge or pus; pain, irritation or redness in the ear; post-surgery in the ear; wound or perforation of the eardrum or dizziness.
Suspend the use and consult a physician in case of irritation or sensitivity.

While ear bands help resist water from light splashing, they are not designed to be waterproof. They are designed to help keep water out while holding earplugs more securely in place, forming a watertight system. For young children that aren't yet comfortable wearing hearing protection, the ear bands are especially helpful with keeping them from picking at their ears. They give adults an added sense of protection while wearing ear plugs in the water. Any of Mack's® Silicone Earplugs are ideally suited for use underneath the Mack's® Ear Band.
Under normal use in a chlorinated pool, tub or shower, washing should not be necessary. Always allow ear band to air dry after each use to prevent mold or mildew growth. If washing is needed, gently hand wash with mild detergent and air dry.
Many doctors use the ear bands for this purpose. Please consult your doctor before using the ear bands for this purpose.
Mack's Ear Bands feature a high quality stretchable neoprene and a 7,6cm adjustable Velcro® type connection, so they can be adjusted to fit a wide range of head sizes. Our 2-color, reversible, adjustable neoprene headband is designed to fit most kids to medium-sized adult heads.
We do not recommend diving into the water with the ear band as the ear band may come off. Jumping into the water feet first, general splashing/playing, and recreational swimming should not pose a problem.
The life of a Mack's® Ear Band will depend greatly on how often it is used and how it is cared for, but they will generally last somewhere in the range of 2 to 5 years.
Yes. Mack's® Ear Bands will help keep ears warm during cold water and winter activities, yet they are not so thick that they will feel hot during warm weather water activities.
Given that Mack's® Ear Bands are much more comfortable and better looking than bathing caps and the alternative is to not swim at all, most kids are happy to wear Mack's® Ear Band. They may take a few minutes to get used to wearing the ear band, but they usually forget they have it on after several minutes. Kids that have experienced the pain and discomfort of nasty recurring ear infections, will often seek out their Mack's® Earplugs and Ear Bands before entering the water.

The earplugs may be re-used until they are dirty or no longer sticky (up to 5 uses). Keeping your hands and ears clean and dry prior to handling/applying the earplugs will help prolong the usable life of the earplugs.
The earplugs are made of moldable, non-irritating silicone rubber and do not contain any latex.
No. Keeping your hands and ears clean and dry prior to handling/applying the earplugs will help prolong the useable life of the earplugs.
First try re-reading the directions, then apply a fresh pair of earplugs, making sure your hands and ears are clean and dry. Moldable silicone earplugs are designed to stick to the surface of a clean, dry ear. If the earplugs are being used in a moist and/or dirty environment, be sure the hands and ears are clean and dry before applying or re-inserting the earplugs or a proper seal may not be achieved. A sign that you have achieved a proper seal is that your own voice will sound more internal and exaggerated. Lastly, try covering the ear canal with the earplug starting from the rear and moving toward the face. This technique squeezes out some of the air in the ear canal before sealing it shut, thus creating a bit of a suction effect. This last technique takes a little practice but creates an excellent seal when done correctly.
No. The earplugs are designed to cover the ear canal. Breaking them into smaller pieces may cause the user to push the earplug into the ear canal making it more difficult to remove. We recommend using Mack's® Kid's Size Silicone Earplugs for children six and under.
Absolutely not. The earplugs may become slightly more pliable when exposed to warm temperatures, but never viscous. Each batch of material is stability tested in our lab at over 170ºC/350 degrees F. (The typical temperature for a hot tub and sauna is 40ºC/104 degrees F and 76ºC/170 degrees F respectively.) To date, not a single test has shown positive results for melting or shape transformation (instability).
These earplugs have been used while flying since the early 1960's and our users report them to be safe and effective for reducing flying discomfort. In addition, Dr. Ira Rubin, MD, PhD has found Mack's® Silicone earplugs to be an effective tool in preventing ear pain in children, especially infants, during plane trips. As he is quoted in a leading pediatric journal: "When molded to the ear canal, they protect the ear from painful air pressure changes and reduce noise as well. Parents report that ear plugs work especially well with infants when left in place for the entire flight. I suggest a trial run a week before the trip if parents anticipate a child's refusing to leave the ear plugs in place." It is believed that the plugs slow down and/or decrease the effects of the pressure changes, thus allowing the ears more time to respond and equalize. As mentioned above, another manner by which the plugs help is by lowering the noise levels in the cabin allowing the user to rest, thus helping combat the effects of jet lag. The benefit of this rest is twofold in that is also helps calm and relax the "tense" flyer, thus allowing them to equalize more effectively. If you are suffering from an ear health condition, we recommend you consult an E.N.T. (ear, nose, and throat doctor) before flying while using the earplugs. As the earplugs are only to be used as an aid, the user needs to take an active roll in trying to prevent the onset of the discomfort. The person should try to stay ahead of and prevent the discomfort by trying to "clear" their ears by one of the various known methods. This is especially important during descent when most of the discomfort occurs. One of the methods involves plugging the nose while applying slight blowing pressure while holding one's breath. Another method is to chew gum. It is not the gum itself, but the wide opening motion of the jaw and the act of swallowing that helps aid in the equalization process. Therefore, either faking it or merely munching on some snacks can achieve the same results. We recommend wearing the earplugs the entire flight, up until the airplane has landed and the cabin has been depressurized.
Yes. While we market our moldable silicone putty ear plugs using a variety of names and colors for several different target markets, they all provide the same great noise reduction and water blocking characteristics.
No. They are not antimicrobial. Mack's silicone naturally resists degradation from microbes for the useful life of the product (up to 5 uses).
