The rhizarthrosis affects mainly women after 50 years and, in most cases, starts from the dominant hand, but can achieve both. Genetic factors, the menopause or the repetition of certain gestures seem to favor its appearance. Its evolution by crises causes painful inflammatory attacks and gradually leads to blocking and deformation of the thumb. Over time it becomes impossible to grasp an object using the thumb.
It acts on three complementary factors:
Keep your thumb resting position: the alignment of thumb bones limits the forces exerted on the trapezoid-metacarpal joint and relieves pain;
Absorb traumatic micro-mobilisations: during the day, the thumb appears to be at rest, but move continuously with the movement of hands in space. Without immobilizing the flexible corrective orthosis will sustain the thumb and 1st metacarpal. This support will help absorb the traumatic micro-mobilisations and limit the painful inflammatory episodes;
Maintains the local heat: the Epitact Flexible Proprioceptive Corrective Orthosis of Thumb has an antalgic effect (pain relief), due to the properties of the fabric and silicone tendon EPITHELIUMFLEX®, which keep the local heat.
Treatment and relief pain from sore thumb during the night
The Rigid Proprioceptive Corrective Orthosis of Thumb Night is recommended for the treatment and relief of sore thumb overnight. The use of rigid Corrective Orthosis EPITACT® Night helps relieve joint pain at the base of the thumb that are felt during the night. Very comfortable, lightweight and ultra thin, goes perfectly unnoticed during sleep.
The Rigid Corrective Orthosis becomes flexible when plunged in hot water. When putting, the orthosis takes the form of your hand, naturally positioning the pulse at rest. It will become rigid in a few minutes, allowing you to have a custom orthosis (to your measure).

Its evolution by crises causes painful inflammatory attacks and gradually leads to blocking and deformation of the thumb. Over time it becomes impossible to grasp an object using the thumb.
The Rigid Proprioceptive Corrective Orthosis of Thumb Night and the Rest Rigid Orthosis of Thumb hold the thumb in a resting position, opening the commissure between the index and thumb. Its rigid anatomical reinforcements contribute to the alignment of the bones, limiting the forces exerted on the trapeziometacarpal joint. Thus limiting the evolution of rizartrosis.
